Rainy Day and Indoor Things to Do Near Eureka Springs
Ozark weather changes fast. Most of the museum's best hours are under a roof.
Weather in the Ozarks moves quickly, and a wet afternoon can wreck a plan built around walking downtown. Fortunately, a large part of the Aviation Cadet Museum is indoors — the exhibit halls, the simulator, the hangar and the gift shop.
The exhibit halls
Five decades of the Aviation Cadet program are on the walls and under glass: uniform cases from WWI through the jet age, cadet foot lockers, flight helmets, navigation instruments, a full ejection seat display with a cadet in flight gear, and the original hand-drawn “Smiling Jack” storyboard from the June 15, 1958 Sunday papers.
The SimCab
Strap into the AeroBall SimCab — the only surviving example of this simulator on earth, originally built at a cost of over three million dollars — and fly it yourself. Indoors, dry, and the single thing kids talk about afterward.
The 30th Aero Squadron Hangar
A working hangar packed with Cadet-era airframes, instruments, uniforms, and the stories that go with every one of them. Under a roof, and the reason a rainy visit still works.
